Ottawa hackathon participants will pitch before an incredible panel of judges like no other!


  • Adam Dodek - Dean, University of Ottawa Law School
  • Martine Boucher - National Chair of the Canadian Bar Association Futures Committee and CEO of Simplex Legal
  • Michael Tremblay - CEO, Invest Ottawa
  • Frederica Wilson - Deputy CEO and Executive Director of Policy and Public Affair, Federation of Law Societies of Canada
  • Richard Tardif - Deputy General Legal Practices Sector and Head of Innovation Council, Justice Canada
  • Peter Becke - Founder and CEO of Venturing Hills. Peter is a global technology leader, a private equity investor, advisor to CEOs of growth companies and a lawyer by profession

February 23:

4 PM: Host and volunteers arrive to prepare the venue

5:30 PM: Registration opens - mingle, snacks, and beverages available 

7 PM: Introduction and welcome from hosts, overview of event, discussion on legal futures from world-renowned legal market analyst Jordan Furlong and a discussion on innovation from IBM Sr. Executive Allen Lalonde

7:30 PM: Kick-Off and Team Formation - If someone wants people to join their team, they can pitch a 60 second idea to all of the attendees. Here is an example of how a pitch works: Sixty Second Pitch

8:00 PM: Teams formed and finalized

9 PM: Adjourn for the night

February 24:

8:30 AM: Venue opens, breakfast and coffee available

10 AM - 4 PM: Mentoring sessions and roving mentors - local legal, tech, business and design leaders will be available to help you work through challenges and zero in on what's important 

10 AM - 2 PM: tech, sponsor and other education sessions - we will be welcoming speakers on such topics as privacy issues for legal apps, the Internet of Things, blockchain, legal market changes, AI and Machine Learning, among other things. We are also expecting a very special guest to speak about the Ontario Minister of Attorney General’s efforts to introduce technology innovations to improve access to justice

12 PM: Lunch available

6 PM: Dinner available

9 PM: Adjourn for the night

February 25:

8 AM: Venue opens, breakfast and coffee served

12 PM: Lunch available

2 PM - 6 PM: Pitch practice with mentors

6 PM: Final pitches & presentations due to hosts

6 PM: Dinner available

6:30 PM: Welcome to guests from hosts and sponsors, introduction of judges

7 PM: Pitches begin (5 minutes to present, 5 minutes of judges’ questions)

8:30 PM: Winners announced

9 PM: end of the event
